We are the world’s largest governing body of amateur pool with more than 265,000 members competing in 8-Ball and 9-Ball Leagues throughout North America. Really, what we are is a community of people who share a love of the game. We support our local pool community through a fair and fun filled pool league for all skill levels that operates locally in the Monroe County area as well as nationally through our Regional and World Championship events. The APA is made up of players of ALL skill levels- a weekly night out for beginners to learn and for experienced players to hone their skills while mingling with friends, meeting new ones and supporting our local businesses. Whether you dream of being a pool shark or just want to nix the netflix once a week and try something new- we're the league for you!

Once you gather a team, choose your favorite bar or other business with at least one pool table. We, the local APA office, will contact the business owners to make sure we have their consent to play. During the session your team will alternate locations every other week. One week you will be at your home loaction and the next will be an away game at your opponents home loaction. The schedule is posted clearly for all team members to see many weeks in advance so you can schedule accordingly.
Sessions last 14-16 weeks with a week of Playoffs/ Finals. There are three sessions a year, Summer, Fall & Spring, culminating with our annual Vegas Cup Tournament in June. We are currently in our 2024 Fall Session. Our next session, Spring, will begin at the beginning of January, but it is never too late (or early) to join!

At 6:30 pm on your league night your team and your opponents will begin to gather at your scheduled bar. The captains will flip a coin to see which team puts up the first player. Once a player is chosen the other team chooses a player to put up against the chosen player. These two players then play out a race of games based on their skill level. Two skill level 3s, for example, will play a 2- 2 race. This means they will play until one of the players gets two wins. Once the match is over, it is time for another player to be put up and the other team to choose who will play against them. This is repeated for 5 matches.

For any of you that may be thinking, "I'm not good enough to play," consider this…75% of APA members are beginner to intermediate players, meaning you don't have to be a pool shark to play. Beginners are valuable members of every team! The only thing you really need, is the desire to have fun! With APA's unique rules and Equalizer® Handicap System, we are the only amateur league that truly gives everyone an equal chance of winning.
All new members start off as skill level 3 (the range is SL 2- SL 7, with 7 being the highest level a player can be) unless known to be higher through play or other pool skill rating systems. Once you start playing, your matches will be entered into the APA equalizer handicapping algorithm and math takes care of it from there. You can exp

Once you start playing, your matches will be entered into the APA equalizer handicapping algorithm and math takes care of it from there. You can expect for your first 10 matches to change levels multiple times, sometimes wildly, until your skill level smooths out by average.
These are things that can be easily worked around! Each team is made of up to 8 players, but only 5 play per night. This allows flexibility for the team incase members travel or fall sick, have an event to attend etc. Some teams choose to pre-plan which 5 team members will play for the week- so the non-playing team members know they have the night off ahead of time.
